Opportunity
PCRS is seeking an experienced youth worker to join our team at the Delta Youth Hub. In this role, you will work closely with the Hub Team Lead to create an inclusive, welcoming, and engaging environment for youth participants. The successful candidate will bring a strong combination of education, creativity for planning, developing and facilitating youth-centered programs along with hands-on experience, demonstrating the ability to collaborate effectively with many community partners. The successful applicant will be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Experience in program development, recreation planning, and creative engagement through sports, music, arts and crafts is essential.
The successful applicant will be required to work evenings and the occasional weekend to accommodate the hours of the hub.
Responsibilities
- Create an atmosphere of inclusivity, acceptance, and support.
- Develop and coordinate community engagement opportunities for youth.
- Develop and facilitate workshops.
- Establish relationships with youth to ensure they are supported to make connections to longer term community resources
- De-escalate crisis and facilitate conflict resolution.
- Respond to challenging behaviors and situations with trauma informed practices, using a non-judgmental professional approach with appropriate boundaries and kindness.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a related field plus one year of related experience or a 2 year diploma in a related field such as Child and Youth Care, or Youth Criminal Justice plus two years related work experience
- Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector.
- Valid driver’s license
- Use of own vehicle to transport participants (mileage paid)
- Current first aid and CPR certificate
Additional Assets
- Sound judgement and effective personal skills
- Motivational Interviewing
- Solid understanding of youth substance use and youth homelessness
- Experience in working with newcomer youth
- Mental health training.
- Training in identifying and working with youth who have experienced exploitation or sexual abuse
- Knowledge of Delta and community partners is an asset.
