Opportunity
Surrey Youth Housing Services is currently looking for auxiliary on-call staff to provide overnight extreme weather shelter support during the winter.
This position may have the opportunity to work in various youth work settings such as supporting youth in the Resource Room, outreach and various other youth programs operating out of the Surrey Youth Hubs.
Hours will vary. Successful applicants will be part of an auxiliary pool.
Responsibilities
- De-escalate crisis and facilitate conflict resolution.
- Completing and managing daily documentation.
- Respond to challenging behaviors and situations with trauma informed practices, using a non-judgmental professional approach with appropriate boundaries and kindness.
- Set and maintain value-based boundaries.
- Create an atmosphere of inclusivity, acceptance, support, and confidence.
- Work within a flexible work schedule to meet the operational requirements of an on-call overnight youth shelter program.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers and staff and participate in team efforts
Qualifications
- B.A. in a related field, plus one (1) year related experience, or a Child and Youth Care Diploma plus two years’ experience, OR a combination of education and related experience working with vulnerable youth.
- Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector
- Current Standard First-Aid & CPR certificate
- Valid class 5 driver’s license
- Use of own vehicle (mileage paid)
- Driver’s abstract must be submitted
