Opportunity
Surrey Youth Services is currently looking for one regular full-time staff to work in various youth work settings that work out of two youth hubs in Newton and City Centre areas of Surrey. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a variety of settings including, resources rooms, outreach, classrooms and community. They will be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and the occasional weekend, and have experience working with vulnerable populations, case management, supporting youth one-to-one, and outreach experience. Applicants would be expected to support youth in outreach in programs such as Reconnect and IRAYL, support youth to secure housing and/or work in education settings.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience in meeting youth where they’re at, recognition of the ongoing influence of trauma and disconnection on the youth served and building on youth’s strengths and passions to create meaning and bolster resilience. Hours may include afternoons and evenings, with some weekends.
Qualifications
- B.A. in a related field plus 1-year related experience, or a Child and Youth Care Diploma plus two years' experience or a combination of related work experience/education with at-risk/high-risk youth.
- Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector.
- Class 5 driver’s license and driver’s abstract with Business Insurance use use of own vehicle
- Driver’s abstract must be submitted.
- Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written
- Familiarity with trauma-informed practices
- Solution-focused and addictions counselling training, mental health, sexual abuse and depression/suicide/co-occurring disorder training
