Opportunity

PCRS seeks a Family Counsellor to provide brief mediation and conflict resolution support to youth and their families identified by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).  

 

Responsibilities

This position requires extensive knowledge of family systems, attachment, mediation, communication, abuse and neglect, and normal and delayed child and family development. The Family Counsellor must also assess child protection concerns if they arise and report back to the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) in these situations. This requires a solid understanding of the effects and indicators of child abuse. This position will operate as part of the Surrey Youth Hubs and function as part of an integrated staff team. This is an outreach position, and staff are expected to meet youth and families in their homes and the community – this includes working flexible hours, including evenings.

 

Qualifications

MSW, BSW or B.A. or equivalent education and Experience will be considered. Skills and Experience in crisis response areas, brief solution-focused counselling, mediation, conflict resolution, and trauma-informed practice. Group facilitation and cultural competency in working with Indigenous youth and families, including South Asian youth and families.

 

Additional Assets

·                Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector.

·                Driver’s License with Business Insurance Use

·                Use of own vehicle required (Paid mileage)
