Opportunity

 

PCRS seeks experienced housing workers for The 1.1.2., a 24 hour, 30 bed, youth transitional housing program in Surrey. The successful applicants will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing direct care support to youth participating in the program.

 

Staff will provide one-on-one support, life skills, individualized goal plans, transition planning as well as group activities such as meetings and unit checks.  This position involves developing relationships with youth as well as liaising with professionals such as social workers, school personnel, and community staff. Staff also provide individualized transition supports including housing search, moving assistance, landlord advocacy, mediation and liaise with social workers to ensure successful transition to safe and affordable independent housing.    

 

Successful applicants will bring their passion for youth work, experience in housing, and knowledge of supporting diverse youth from many cultural backgrounds.

 

This position requires a flexible shift schedule that includes morning, evenings, and weekend rotations. These are on site positions and not available for a remote or hybrid work arrangements.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop supportive and engaging relationships with youth,
  • Develop individualized service and transition plans collaboratively with participants.  
  • Assist youth in maintaining program expectations such as attending meetings, maintaining unit cleanliness, supporting participants to attend school, work, or volunteer opportunities, and maintaining connection with other support workers. 
  • Maintain accurate case notes, monitoring youth progress, engagement, and participation in the program; other administrative tasks will be required.
  • Provide/teach life skills either one to one and/or lead group activities.
  • Liaise with professionals such as social workers, school personnel, and other community staff. 
  • Provide individualized housing supports such as housing search support, moving assistance, landlord advocacy, mediation and liaise with social workers to support youth to find, secure and move in to safe and affordable housing.   
  • Participate and engage in a collaborative and effective staff team.  
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and staff and participate in team efforts.   
  • Participate in professional development and training.  

 

Qualifications

  • B.A. or a degree in a related field plus one (1) year experience; OR Diploma in a related field plus (2) years related experience.
  • Criminal record check, including the vulnerable sector.
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Use of own personal vehicle with business use insurance (mileage paid)
  • Drivers abstract.

  • Experience working with vulnerable and unhoused young people. 
  • Ability to respond to crisis scenarios using agency protocols and ethics.  
  • Effective team collaboration skills.   
  • Experience creating and working within a culturally inclusive environment for staff, partners, and participants.  
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal, presentation, and written communication skills.  
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple, often conflicting priorities.
