Opportunity

The Vancouver Youth Transitional Housing Program Supervisor position supports a staff team at housing sites located in East Vancouver. Supervision for day, afternoon, and night staff at two primary locations. The Kwayatsut Housing Program at Broadway and Fraser Street provides housing to 30 at risk youth ages 16- 24 years old in a partnership with British Columbia Indigenous Housing Society. The youth housing is located in a building with 96 units that support low-income adults. The Thompson Court Housing Program is also located in East Vancouver and provides 15 self-contained one-bedroom units to youth ages 16-24. The program is 24 months long, and on completion of the program, youth are supported to move to long term housing.

The supervisor supports the team to help youth maintain housing and participate in various programs such as life skills to prepare youth to transition to long term housing

.

The position requires a sound understanding of youth transitional housing program operations and management, integrative case management, child welfare legislation, staff leadership and team building, contract management and program evaluation.

The supervisor will work closely with Ministry of Children and Families to review MCFD referrals as well as referrals from the community.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership to the housing support staff including file reviews, 1:1 supervision,
• Coordinates team meetings, staff training, support staff to successfully complete delegated tasks
• Connecting to youth in the program and providing 1-1 supports when needed.
• Recruitment, hiring, performance reviews, payroll.
• Onboarding and orientation of new staff,
• Support staff by familiarizing and understanding policy
• Able to provide training support regarding youth work and policy issues
• Assist staff in understanding the roles and responsibilities of various provincial and federal ministries, and other agencies as well as PCRS.
• Maintain health and safety standards.
• Provide leadership concerning crisis management, maintains safety practices and a harm reduction approach.

Requirements:

• Display competency working with LGBTQ2SI, Indigenous, newcomer, youth in care of the Ministry of Children and Families and street involved youth
• Have an understanding of the needs of homeless or at risk of homelessness youth.
• Awareness of child protection issues and legislation and understands and follows policy of reporting procedures.
• Ability to liaise with funders/community agencies/ professionals as required
• Keep funders or their delegate informed of program updates, completes funder reports when necessary.
• Represents the program within PCRS and to other agencies and community members as required
• Maintains effective relationships with other agencies.
• Contributes to the leadership of the Vancouver Youth Services, including the Broadway Youth Resource Center
• Participates in the housing leadership team
• Works with Regional PCRS housing services and the leadership team of the other Vancouver based PCRS programs.
• Contributes to professional development and training of the team

                            Qualifications

•  BSW or a degree in a related field or diploma plus two (2) years related experience may be considered.
• A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience, leading a large team
• Valid full class 5 or class 4 drivers license
• Demonstrated experience working with at-risk, multi-barriered, homeless youth ages 15-24 and understanding their unique needs.
• Satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including vulnerable sector
• Current Standard First Aid certificate.
• NVCI or MANDT certification
• Strong understanding of Indigenous and post-colonial issues
• Experience creating and working within a trauma-informed, culturally inclusive environment for staff, partners and youth.
• Proven effective team building and mentoring skills.
• Ability to lead staff team in order to achieve outcomes for youth and funders.
• Strong verbal, interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills are essential.

•     Knowledge of relevant government legislation related to youth in BC.
